The process is typically used to remove rust, scale or any other dry surface contaminants from parts, and can also be used to produce uniform cosmetic surfaces on metal products.
Carbon and stainless steel shot blasting media is most commonly used in our bulk and shot blasting process. Bulk blasting uses specialized machines to blast the surface of a material with one of many types of metallic shot (media). This is done to remove surface debris, such as scale, but it is also done to impart a particulate surface finish to the object being shot blasted.
Often, parts getting shot blasted are moving on to another step in the manufacturing process and must be clean prior to the next operation. This is a fast and economical method to clean material.
